WhatsApp is undisputedly the most popular chatting application around the world, its use is a must for more than 2 billion people around the world (according to the latest stats) and it has become a regular form of communication.

Its purchase by Facebook (currently Meta) several years ago certainly helped its popularity grow exponentially. In addition to being a simple, free and easy-to-use app, all you need is a compatible phone, an internet connection, and an active phone number.

As for the latter, which is a mandatory requirement, everyone is aware that the phone number must be linked to the SIM card or eSIM to receive the text message for activation, but did you know that you can also activate WhatsApp using a landline or landline phone number? Here's how it works if you're interested.

Any account on the WhatsApp application is associated with only three personal information, which are the phone number, the profile picture, and the name.

We have already explained why WhatsApp asks to know your name when setting it up for the first time, but if you are asking whether it is possible to use a land phone to activate the WhatsApp application?

The answer is “yes”, although most landlines are not equipped with the ability to receive short text messages (SMS) to know the verification code.

But this is not the only option because WhatsApp also allows receiving this code by a phone call, which gives the opportunity to use WhatsApp with a landline phone number, which you often do not use, but contracted with the telecom company only to activate the fixed Internet service (ADSL/VDSL).

In this case, this number can be used to create two WhatsApp accounts, which is something you may need in some cases. You can use two WhatsApp accounts on the same phone without the need to purchase another mobile line (SIM Card).

Regardless of the reason or purpose that drives you to use two WhatsApp accounts on the same phone, the possibility of activating the service via the landline number is available officially..

but only in the business version or WhatsApp Business, which is similar to the normal WhatsApp in terms of design and mechanism of work, you can use it to send Messages, photos, and more, as you are used to in WhatsApp,

but with additions aimed at helping business owners deal with their customers easily.

One of the requirements for registering in the “WhatsApp Business” application is that you have a mobile phone number or a landline number (fixed), and this is unlike the regular WhatsApp application,

which requires receiving the verification code via SMS or a phone call to the mobile phone number only. If you try to enter the land phone number It will tell you that the number is invalid.

With this point in mind, let's review the steps for registering in WhatsApp with a landline number.

How to activate WhatsApp with a landline number

Whether you are using an Android phone or an iPhone, the first step is to download and install the WhatsApp Business app from the App Store.

Then open the application and agree to the terms and conditions by clicking on “Agree and Continue”, then on the next screen, select your country from the drop-down list to add the country code, then in the next box enter the governorate code (consisting of two or three digits) followed by the landline number .

After completion, click on Done and confirm the correctness of the number by pressing OK.
The WhatsApp Business app then sends the 6-digit registration code via SMS, but since SMS cannot be received on the landline, you will have to wait for the specified time until the code resend timeout expires at which point the “Call me” option will appear Click on it to request a phone call to get the registration code.

Indeed, as soon as you click on this option, you will receive a call on the landline to dictate the registration code, write it in order to activate the WhatsApp with the landline number.

Once the activation is complete, you will start setting up your account on WhatsApp Business. At first, the application will ask you if there are previous backups for this account and you want to restore them.

Click on “Skip restore” as the first time you register in the application with this number, then you can set up your profile picture and settings… etc.

After accessing the “Business Profile” page, write your name and add a profile picture, then if the account is not a business, click on the menu below and select “Not a business” and continue setting up the account until you reach the usual main interface of the WhatsApp application.

You can now start chatting with the contacts registered on your phone and making phone calls, which will be via the phone itself (not the landline phone) just deal with the application normally as in WhatsApp Messenger, there is no difference except that the account is activated with the land phone number.
